From Inland Vibes to Dockside Dining: South Jersey Mocktails, Seafood & Summer Nights

Summer officially showed up in South Jersey this week, and honestly? I’m not mad about it. Between backyard-style parties, waterfront seafood dinners, and more mocktails than I can count, this week felt like the unofficial kickoff to the season. From inland Egg Harbor City to the marshy docks of Galloway, this little adventure reminded me that you don’t need a beach badge to have the perfect South Jersey summer night.

My week started at The Inn on St. Louis for the AC Pride May Mixer. My friend Markie, the president of AC Pride, and his incredible team pulled together another event full of good energy, welcoming people, and serious summer BBQ vibes.

The outdoor event space at The Inn on St. Louis feels like the ultimate backyard party setup. There’s a BBQ pit, shaded tables, and a trendy shipping-container-style bar serving cocktails, mocktails, and pretty much anything you could want to sip on during a 90-degree South Jersey heatwave. The event included complimentary light bites, BBQ food for purchase, and endless sides to snack on while hanging out with friends.

I grabbed a complimentary peachy citrus mocktail served in the cutest little bucket cup imaginable. It was overflowing with fresh fruit garnish, icy cold, and exactly what I needed after melting in the sun.

Pair that with a legendary $2 hot dog and a quick trip through the self-serve salad station, and honestly, I was thriving.

The entire event felt like a true kickoff to summer, laid-back, welcoming, and fun without trying too hard. Even miles away from the beach, the vibes were immaculate. I’m already planning to head back for a full review of The Inn on St. Louis because this spot deserves its own feature.

Finally Trying the Famous Oyster Creek in Galloway, NJ

After hearing people rave about Oyster Creek Restaurant & Boat Bar for years, I finally made the trip out to Galloway.

First, we stopped in earlier in the week for takeout, and let me tell you… that crab cake sandwich changed lives.

This wasn’t one of those filler-packed crab cakes pretending to be seafood. This was pure crab. Huge chunks. Fresh flavor. Zero nonsense. The soft bread and homemade chips sealed the deal immediately. Joe and I looked at each other halfway through the meal and basically agreed we had no choice but to come back for a full dinner date later that week.

And wow… I get the hype now.

Classic South Jersey Waterfront Dining

Oyster Creek sits directly on the docks surrounded by peaceful South Jersey marshland. The views alone are worth the drive. Between the calm water, salty sea breeze, and endless marsh horizon, it feels like one of those hidden local spots that somehow still keeps its old-school charm.

Inside, the walls are covered in decades of photos and nautical decor that give the restaurant a nostalgic boat-bar atmosphere. The second you walk in, you’re hit with the smell of fresh seafood coming out of the kitchen.

This place already has a loyal following and even earned a feature on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri, where the fresh seafood and dockside atmosphere were showcased to the world. Their clams and oysters became standouts on the show, though personally, I’ll always lean toward crab whenever I can.

Mocktails on the Dock

One thing I truly appreciated? The staff made the mocktail experience feel intentional instead of like an afterthought.

While the mocktail menu itself is small, our server immediately reassured us they could customize almost anything. She rattled off option after option and genuinely made us feel seen and included as sober diners.

We ordered two mojitos:

  • A classic lime mojito

  • A blueberry mojito with fresh muddled blueberries

The lime mojito was bubbly, minty, crisp, and incredibly refreshing. Perfect for sipping outside by the water. The blueberry version had fresh berries and mint muddled right into the drink, though I would’ve loved a slightly stronger blueberry flavor to really make it pop. Still, sitting dockside with fresh mocktails in hand? No complaints here.

Dessert First Always

If you know me, you know dessert is never optional.

I started with the homemade banana cream pie, a family recipe topped with thick homemade whipped cream. The filling was silky smooth with fresh banana chunks throughout, and the whipped cream honestly deserved its own fan club.

Joe immediately developed dessert envy and ordered the chocolate chip cheesecake. A towering slice packed with chocolate chips, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle. Massive, rich, and absolutely worth every bite.

No regrets choosing dessert first.

Sushi, Seafood & One Incredible Flounder Dish

We shared a Philly sushi roll as an appetizer, and these rolls were BIG. Fresh salmon, cucumber, and a generous amount of cream cheese made for a solid start to dinner. While the sushi was good, Oyster Creek definitely shines brightest with its seafood specialties and classic shore-style dishes.

Originally, I planned to order the stuffed flounder loaded with their famous crab cake filling, but then the specials menu got me.

I ended up with a broiled flounder served over broccoli rabe, wild rice, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, and jumbo crab chunks in a garlic herb butter sauce. This may honestly be one of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had.

The flounder was perfectly flaky and seasoned beautifully. The garlic butter sauce tied everything together without overpowering the seafood, and the crab chunks made the whole dish feel extra indulgent.

Meanwhile, Joe went with the Filet Mignon Alexander topped with shiitake mushrooms and lump crab meat alongside angel hair pasta. The steak was cooked perfectly,  juicy, flavorful, and not overly rare. Add buttery pasta to the mix, and this dinner absolutely delivered.

Yes, it’s definitely a splurge dinner spot. But sometimes you just have to embrace the moment.

Final Thoughts on Oyster Creek Restaurant & Boat Bar

Between the waterfront views, incredible seafood, friendly service, and thoughtful mocktail options, Oyster Creek completely lived up to the decades of hype surrounding it.

Whether you’re planning a South Jersey date night, searching for the best seafood restaurant in Galloway, NJ, or simply craving a dockside dinner with marsh views, this spot deserves a visit.

I also got the chance to interview our server for an upcoming feature on Oyster Creek for Shore Local News, so keep an eye out for even more behind-the-scenes details soon.

We left stuffed, happy, and walking back to the car with that perfect cool seabreeze rolling off the marsh.

South Jersey summer nights just hit differently.

Until Next Time,
The Sober Party Girl
