Spring Has Sprung (Sort Of) and a Visit to My Favorite Taqueria in Egg Harbor Township

It is finally starting to feel like spring in South Jersey! Well… sort of. This past week gave us a little bit of everything—winter chills, spring sunshine, summer warmth, and fall breezes. But I’ll gladly take a couple of perfect days over none at all.

Earlier in the week, I took advantage of one of those beautiful days and walked to the boardwalk for my first slice of pizza of the year, a true sign that warmer weather is on the way. Shout out to Preps for their unbeatable $6 two-slices-and-a-drink coupon. You already know I’ll be using that again.

While I was there, I scooped up my 50% off Castaway Cove tickets and go-kart passes, because planning ahead for summer fun is basically a sport in South Jersey. Naturally, I couldn’t leave without a classic Kohr Bros. cone with rainbow sprinkles. Some traditions are simply non-negotiable. 🍦

I also got to support the amazing LICK’s Cat Sanctuary at their Meow Mixer fundraiser (you can read about our last adventure there, too!). Then we wrapped up the week with a trip to see the newest Super Mario movie.

And somehow, with all that fun, I managed to take exactly one photo.

But honestly? That just means I was living in the moment—and sometimes that’s the best kind of memory.

The Real Star of the Show: The Yoshi Popcorn Bucket

The one photo I did snap was of acquiring the prized Yoshi popcorn bucket, which turned out to be much larger than expected.

This thing could hold enough popcorn to feed a small village. Thankfully, the theater gave me a large bucket of popcorn to rescue Yoshi from his buttery situation. A true hero moment.

A Go-To Favorite: Taqueria Michoacan in Egg Harbor Township

Even though the week was packed with fun, I didn’t try any brand-new restaurants. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a favorite spot worth sharing—because sometimes the best places are the ones you keep coming back to.

One of my absolute go-to restaurants for a reliable, delicious meal (and refreshing mocktails) is Taqueria Michoacan in Egg Harbor Township.

Located on the corner of English Creek Avenue and the Black Horse Pike, this small storefront is easy to overlook, but don’t let its size fool you. This place is bursting with flavor and authentic comfort food.

From the moment you walk in, the daily specials greet you and set the tone for a truly satisfying meal. Every now and then, those specials include frozen mocktails like piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris. But if you ask me, their agua fresca deserves the gold medal every time.

And before you even have time to decide what to order, the friendly staff brings over freshly made tortilla chips and salsa. Always hot, always delicious, and dangerously easy to devour.

The Must-Order Drink: A Giant Horchata

I may have taken my time browsing the menu, but one thing was decided immediately:

A large horchata.

And when they say large, they mean it.

This creamy, cinnamon-topped drink is smooth, refreshing, and lightly sweet with a hint of vanilla. It’s comforting without being heavy, and honestly, I’d pick this over ice cream any day.

The Perfect Taco Platter (Seriously)

For my meal, I ordered the chicken taco platter with rice and beans, and it may have been one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a while.

The beans were perfectly tender and full of flavor, even if they looked a little runny at first glance. The rice was seasoned just right, and the chicken was juicy, tender, and well-spiced.

Each soft tortilla wrapped around the chicken, onions, and cilantro like a warm hug.

It was simple.
It was comforting.
It was exactly what I needed.

A very solid dish.

The Add-On That Stole the Show: Shrimp Tostada

I needed just a little crunch to round out the meal, so I added a shrimp tostada, and wow, was that the right decision.

This crispy flat tortilla was piled high with:

  • Refried beans

  • Juicy shrimp

  • Fresh lettuce

  • Tomatoes

  • Cheese

It was crunchy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. I could easily eat 100 of these without hesitation.

Best of all, it’s an affordable add-on that makes the meal feel extra special.

Already Planning My Next Visit

I packed up my leftover tacos (a rare but welcome bonus) and immediately started thinking about what I’ll try next time.

This taqueria is perfectly located for my lunch breaks, and there are still plenty of menu items calling my name—especially that piña colada mocktail I’ve been eyeing.

Spring Is Here And So Are the Holidays

This week flew by as we prepared for the upcoming spring holidays. Store shelves are already looking bare, but I managed to snag two seasonal treasures:

  • Coconut Tastykakes

  • A butter sculpture shaped like a bunny

Small victories count, especially this time of year.

Wishing you all a happy, bright, and prosperous spring filled with good food, fun adventures, and maybe a few new places to explore.

And don’t worry, I'll be out there finding them.

Until next time,
The Sober Party Girl 🌸

Final Sober Party Girl Score: 10 out of 10!
