Glitz, Glamour, and I Almost Forgot We Were in Atlantic City: Mocktails, Dinner, and a Fabulous Show
Atlantic City has always held a special place in my heart. From visiting my dad while he worked at the old Sands Casino, to touching starfish at the tiny Atlantic City Aquarium, to countless walks along the boardwalk and beach collecting shells, I’ve spent most of my life in this loud, messy, chaotic city.
And honestly? I love it.
But I’ll also be real with you, unless you’re a local, Atlantic City isn’t always my top vacation recommendation. Not because it’s unsafe, okay maybe my favorite pizza shop has seen a shooting or two, (honestly, I personally think it’s generally fine), but because for a long time there simply wasn’t much to do beyond gambling, eating, and hoping a show you liked happened to be in town.
That’s been changing.
Places like Ocean Casino have added attractions like Topgolf and indoor mini golf. You can catch a movie at Tropicana. The Pool at Harrahs usually has a party going. Local venues host trivia nights, comedy shows, and the occasional magician. But there still wasn’t that one big, can’t-miss entertainment experience that made you feel like Atlantic City was becoming a true destination again.
Until now.
Until I finally experienced The Hook at Caesars.
OH. EM. GEEEE.
The Hook Has Arrived — And Atlantic City Needed It
If you haven’t heard yet, Spiegelworld has brought The Hook to Atlantic City. A high-energy, adults-only variety show packed with comedy, acrobatics, magic, dancing, and jaw-dropping performances.
They proudly call it Atlantic City’s #1 variety show.
And technically… they’re not wrong. Especially since they’re the only variety show…
With shows running Wednesday through Sunday, this wildly entertaining production is bold, funny, a little outrageous, and constantly evolving, meaning even if you’ve seen it once, the experience can be completely different the next time.
Trust me, you’ll want to go again.
But before the show? We had a full night planned.
A Quick Stop at the Slots (For Important Reasons… Like Hot Chocolate)
We started the evening with a quick visit to the slot machines.
Not because we’re high rollers. Because I wanted my free hot chocolate.
We wandered into what’s now called “The West,” which feels like a slightly sad reminder of the old Wild Wild West casino area. The animatronics are gone or borken, the energy is quieter, and at 5 PM on a Sunday, it was definitely not bustling.
Still, the slots were working.
$20 in. Hot chocolate ordered.
$20 gone.
Joe tried a few machines with no luck… until his final $20 went into a giant star-covered slot machine.
And then: BOOM!
Bonus round, bonus round. Free spins!
Dinner was officially on Joe.
Dinner at Superfrico: A Wild, Trippy Dining Experience
We met up with family friends at Superfrico, one of the most unique restaurants in Atlantic City.
Calling it a restaurant almost feels too simple.
Superfrico is an immersive, interactive, slightly chaotic American-Italian dining experience where every room has its own theme and personality. We were seated in the Dressing Room, a fully pink space filled with mirrors, fans, and theatrical vibes.
Naturally, the first thing I looked for was the mocktail menu.
And there it was.
Cue the angel choir.
The Mocktails: Unexpectedly Fantastic
There were only two mocktails available — which meant obviously I had to try both.
The Beet & Sumac Soda
I’ll be honest.
I was nervous.
Who willingly drinks beet juice?
But this mocktail, made with beet cordial, sumac simple syrup, and cardamom bitters, completely surprised me. It had a gentle sweetness with just a hint of bitterness, creating a balanced, sophisticated flavor that felt cozy without being overwhelming.
First sip?
Sold.
The Basil Berry Smash
This one was basically a strawberry-and-basil Shirley Temple, and if you know me, you know I’m a Shirley girly.
Fresh strawberry puree, aromatic basil, and bubbles made this drink refreshing, light, and absolutely delicious.
Could I have had five?
Yes.
Did I?
No.
Because at $14 each, one felt responsible.
Taste AC Menu: A Great Deal Worth Trying
Since it was March, we took advantage of the Taste AC promotion, a month-long event where restaurants offer special prix fixe menus.
At Superfrico, the $60 menu included:
Arancini
Choice of entrรฉe
Dessert
A solid deal for Atlantic City dining.
The Food: Hits, Misses, and One Dish I’m Still Thinking About
Red Velvet Cake (Dessert First — Obviously)
Fluffy cake. Cream cheese filling. Caramel drizzle. White chocolate topping.
Beautiful.
Delicious.
Would absolutely order again.
Arancini
If you’ve never had arancini, imagine deep-fried risotto balls topped with cheese and happiness.
Superfrico’s version featured:
Creamy risotto
Basil oil
Truffle oil
They were so good I accidentally inhaled them before taking a photo.
It happens.
The Short Rib
This dish was the star of the night.
Fork-tender short rib served over saffron mushroom risotto, topped with citrus gremolata and crispy shallots.
I’m not usually a short rib person.
But I will be thinking about this meal for a long time.
Pesto Gnocchi
Ricotta gnocchi with pesto, guanciale, toasted pistachio, and parmesan.
The flavor was nice, especially the pesto, but the texture leaned a bit too soft and mushy for our taste. Not bad, just not the standout dish.
Joe definitely preferred my short rib.
And yes, we eventually traded plates.
Mascarpone Mashed Potatoes
These weren’t just mashed potatoes.
These were mascarpone mashed potatoes — creamy, buttery, slightly sweet, and completely indulgent.
We ordered them out of curiosity.
We’d order them again without hesitation.
Our cheesecake must have got lost in the mix, because it never came. We did ask the serve to box it up since it was getting late.
Here is a photo of to-go chocolate cheesecake that was rich and delicious. A solid cheesecake with caramel drizzle, and crunch chocolate balls.
Showtime: The Hook at Caesars
We arrived at dinner shortly after 5 PM.
Suddenly, it was 6:45.
Showtime.
We grabbed our cheesecake to-go, paid the bill, and rushed toward the theater.
Getting to the venue is an experience in itself, winding around the corner from Superfrico, squeezing through a tiny box office, and walking down a bowling-themed hallway before entering a gorgeous ocean-inspired theater.
You can smell fresh popcorn immediately.
The seating is cozy, but the space is beautifully designed and full of energy.
Then the lights dimmed.
And the show began.
The Hook: Funny, Wild, and Completely Unexpected
The host descended from the ceiling on a giant golden hook — very Jersey, very funny — and had the audience laughing within seconds.
From there, the performances kept escalating.
We saw:
Gravity-defying acrobatics
Hilarious comedy
Incredible dancing
Contortionists who made my joints hurt just watching
Moments where I was convinced someone had broken a bone
But they hadn’t.
Somehow.
The energy never dipped. The crowd stayed engaged the entire time. And when it ended, everyone around us had the same reaction:
“When can we go again?”

Final Thoughts: Atlantic City Is Trying — And It Shows
We walked back to the car feeling happy, entertained, and just a little impressed.
Winning at the slots.
Cheesecake to-go.
A fantastic dinner.
And one of the most entertaining shows we’ve seen in years.
Atlantic City may not be in its glory days, but it does feel like the city is making a real effort to become a destination again.
And honestly?
That gives me hope.
Someone definitely peed on the car parked in front of mine.
But still.
Progress.
Until Next Time,
The Sober Party Girl
