Gregory’s Bar: Tradition, Herotinis & Party Vibes in Somers Point

Let’s keep the good times rolling with another Somers Point tradition—Gregory’s Bar. Back in July, I was craving good food and, of course, a Herotini (because what’s summer without one?). Luckily, Somers Point has plenty of spots that support the Hero Campaign’s Herotini Challenge, and Gregory’s was calling my name. Confession: Gregory’s and I have had a love/hate relationship in the past. But listen—when there’s a Herotini on the line? I always come back.

A Little Gregory’s History

Gregory’s has been around since 1908, (fun fact: my favorite year!) and it’s got stories to tell. From Prohibition days to a recent Taco Tuesday feud with Taco Bell (we love the drama!), Gregory’s has seen it all. According to their website the bar is run by Joe and Paul, both graduates of the Culinary Academy at Atlantic Cape Community College. They’ve kept old favorites like Pop’s homemade snapper soup and whole lobster dinners, while adding their own twists to keep things fresh.

Walking in, you’re greeted by a sea of locals, drinks in hand, eyes glued to the TVs. Time to order that Herotini! Bartender vibes were friendly, the server came through with a smile, and I knew it was time: Herotini o’clock.

Their Herotini Mocktail

Gregory’s doesn’t have a mocktail menu (missed opportunity, IMO), but this year’s Herotini is a strawberry lemonade with muddled berries and garnished with a mint leaf. Sometimes lemonade means sugar overload, but not here—it was light, refreshing, and easy to sip. Cute idea, but I do wish they’d gone a little bolder. A fun name and one extra flavor could’ve made it a star. Maybe we could throw in another ingredient or flavor, a fun rim, or at least give it a sassy name? I’d order the heck out of a “Strawberry Slay-tini.” Just saying.

The Food

The menu has definitely leveled up since my last visit. I went with the Plant-Based Beyond Burger, which comes with a thousand island dressing, lettuce, tomato, onion, and sweet potato fries. Except… mine showed up missing the onions and dressing. And no cheese, but in their defense I didn’t realize it was cheeseless. A little disappointing, but I made it work by adding a slice of cheese and asking for the missing toppings. Traditional thousand island dressing isn’t vegan, so I wonder why cheese isn’t added to the dish. Maybe to have the other elements speak for themselves? Anyway! The real MVP of this meal? The apple cinnamon dip for the sweet potato fries—sweet, cinnamony perfection. Honestly, I could dream about that dip for days. It’s giving fall dessert in a cup.

My husband went full comfort-food mode with the seafood pot pie, and wow! I think our eyes grew to the size of the puff pastry on top once we saw how big it was! The golden puff pastry sat on top of a creamy, cheesy, seafood mix that had seafood in nearly every bite. He basically inhaled it, and yes, I stole plenty of bites too.

We wrapped up dinner feeling full and happy, and decided to keep the night going elsewhere.

Herotini Happy Hour at The Porch

Fast forward to last Thursday, hours before the Eagles vs. Cowboys kickoff. The perfect pre-party? Gregory’s Herotini Happy Hour at their outdoor bar and “The Porch.”

I’d never been out there before, but the vibe was on point—live music, the smell of sizzling steak in the air, and a packed crowd. Upstairs, a speakeasy-style space had a gorgeous spread of fruit, cheese, and hummus for guests.

Behind the bar, Joe poured mini cups of the strawberry lemonade Herotini with a fresh berry floating inside. Honestly, I could’ve polished off the entire pitcher myself.

The Porch was buzzing with laughter, raffle tickets flying around, and—you won’t believe this—I actually WON the raffle. Me! The self-proclaimed unluckiest human. I was honored to announce the raffle winner, which immediately became awkward once I rattled off my own numbers. I walked away with a Gregory’s gift card (which means round two is already on the books).

Saying Goodbye to Summer and Hello, Fall Festivities!

Sipping my Herotini upstairs with the breeze coming through, I couldn’t help but feel that bittersweet shift of summer winding down. The crowds thin, shore businesses scale back hours, school buses start slowing traffic again. But honestly? South Jersey in the fall might be the best time to party. Between pumpkin patches, haunted houses, farm days, and car shows, the fun is just getting started.

So cheers to the end of summer, Gregory’s Herotinis, and all the fall adventures ahead.

Until next time,
The Sober Party Girl
