Sugar Factory, Atlantic City, NJ

Kicking this blog off with a bang!

The Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Atlantic City is, probably, one of the best casinos in Atlantic City. Is it because of the brand? The familiarity? I don’t know what it is, but this place always feels like home to me.

My husband and I were excited to return to Hard Rock to see the “My Big Gay Italian Casino Adventure.” A crazy whirlwind play that had the perfect mix of love, lust, and laughter at the Sound Waves Stage. We have walked past the venue a million times, but we never walked in. The bar greets you as you walk through the doors. We were running late to the party, so we did not take a look at the menu. Instead, we were greeted by security and shown our seats. The theater was clean and set up beautifully. The gorgeous chandeliers gave off a warm light and we even got to see the disco ball in action. Overall it was a wonderful production and we will look forward to the next show!

Before the show, we had to lose some money… It is a casino after all!! So, once I lost everything and my husband doubled his money, we wanted to grab a quick bite before the show. Since we were running late, you can imagine it wasn’t very quick. We decided to go to the beloved and busy Sugar Factory at the Hard Rock. Not a dig, we have always loved the Sugar Factory, but tonight felt… off.

The bar was empty, which is a bit odd for a Friday night, but it’s not summer yet so we took it as good luck! It took a little bit of time, but we were greeted and handed menus. There is a new Dubia Chocolate Milkshake that I had to try, and my husband had to have their massive order and chocolate chip cookie sandwich. We are a “dessert first” family. Dessert was good, but not great. It just lacked the secret ingredient, love. Silly, I know, but you can feeeeel it, right?!

The cookie sandwich was massive and eye popping, but the cookies weren’t warm which would have made it a ten out of ten- to be fair, it doesn’t promise warm cookies, but it totally should. The milkshake was good, not overwhelming, but a good chocolate milkshake with a hint of pistachio and strawberry. But, it was just dessert, bring on the quick bites!

I broke my own rule. I try to stick to smaller plates when going to shows, especially in casinos. However, I was dying for their Pan Seared Salmon Salad, and for around $30, it sounded like the best option for me. Hubby got the new highlighted wings and mozzarella brick special which ended up being more expensive than my entree. The wings looked small, the salad was swimming in dressing, the mozzarella bricks looked old, but the salmon filet was divine! After a mid meal and $150, we probably won’t be back to the Sugar Factory for dinner.

BUT! If you’re like us and love fun and fancy nonalcoholic beverages they are still the “go to” spot. The milkshake was good, and most, if not all, of their beverages can be made without alcohol. My husband, who enjoys adult beverages, can get a mimosa flight while I enjoy a full menu of goblets, shakes, mock mimosa and tinis. It’s a great all ages, sober inclusive, spot to enjoy the bar with or without the alcohol… but if you’re feeling snackish maybe just get an order of fries.

Pros

Cons

Great atmosphere

Food didn't blow me away

Sooo many drinks to choose from and most can be made alcohol free

Felt pricy for the quality

Great for apps, desserts, quick bites

Won’t be back for dinner

Until next time,

PS- Please forgive me, we didn't take any photos!!! But that will change moving forward. Promise!
