Levari’s in Woodbine — Eating in the "Heart of Tuckahoe"

If there’s one thing I love about South Jersey, it’s that even when you’re winding through endless stretches of pine trees, a dependable little eatery always pops up right when you need it. After a scenic maze of twists and turns through Woodbine, I finally pulled into Levari’s Seafood and American Grill. The lot was packed, always a good sign, but somehow the universe left me a VIP spot right up front. Destiny? I think yes.

First Impressions: A Bar Buzzing With Life

Walking inside, I was greeted by a lively bar scene buzzing with chatter, clinking glasses, and a single empty seat in the corner calling my name. I slid in and opened the menu, excited for a mocktail moment… but alas, no mocktail section. When I asked, the bartender offered a polite but not-so-excited “We have juices.”


Just juices.
No specials.
No house mix.
No sparkles.

Internal panic ensued.
I ordered water.

The Mocktail Moment (…Or Lack Thereof)

After some internal pep-talking, I settled on a cheeseburger and a Shirley Temple, because if there’s one thing I’ll never abandon, it’s the trusty Shirley. It arrived a perfect ruby red with a single cherry on top. Simple. Sweet. Classic.




From my corner seat, I watched steaming plates fly out of the kitchen, onion rings, wings, toasted subs, and every server looked cheerful and busy. TVs glowed with sports, and the place had that unmistakable small-town comfort energy.

What I Ordered: The Cheeseburger Hero

My burger showed up fast and came stacked with a fresh bun, crispy lettuce, juicy tomato, crunchy onion, and a pile of picklers on a thin classic American patty covered in cheese and a bag of chips. Honestly? It hit the spot. I’m already eyeing the other burger creations for next time.

Dessert Regret (Yes, It’s a Thing)

I didn’t order dessert this time, but I heard the cakes and pies are legendary. The way people were raving? I’m fully convinced I made a mistake. Next time, dessert is happening. No excuses.

Final Thoughts — Will I Be Back?

When the check arrived, the bartender was already swinging back to refill another round of drafts. I wasn’t blown away by the experience, but the food was solid, the atmosphere was lively, and the crowd looked happy, which is  never a bad sign. And hey, they host trivia nights and events, so I’m not crossing them off my list just yet. I’ll be back, mocktail hope alive and well.

It’s officially Herotini Season in Atlantic County—one of my favorite parts of summer! Hosted by the HERO Campaign, this annual challenge invites local restaurants to craft creative mocktails while raising money to promote designated driving. The community votes for their favorites with a donation, making it a fun and meaningful way to support a vital cause.  The Hero Campaign was started by Bill and Muriel Elliott after their son,  John R. Eliott was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver 2 months after graduating from the US Naval Academy. You can read all about their story and efforts at www.herocampaign.org. Holiday Havoc Means Merry Mocktails!

  It’s almost Christmas, which means the holiday chaos is officially in full swing. The closer Santa gets, the louder, busier, and more caffeinated we all become. This is your friendly reminder to pause, take a breath, and pour yourself a mocktail. That’s exactly the vibe I was chasing. Wanting to stay close to home, we made a quick trip to Mays Landing to check out Freddy J’s —a small bar with a constantly packed parking lot and a very impressive 4.7-star Google rating. We had stopped by once when it first opened and weren’t totally sold, but hey, everyone deserves a second chance. So I grabbed a couple of friends, said a little prayer to the parking gods, and we went for it.
