Welcome to the Party!
Hello!!
I am happy to officially welcome you to the sober party blog!
Who am I?
After many years of wanting to share my experiences as a sober partier, I took the leap and just did it! I don't know why it took years, but it did. We're here now! I am a long time straight edge girl who enjoys a nice party, but with a mocktail or shirley temple in hand. I have known for years that alcoholic drinks just weren't for me. My control freak side could never. That doesn't mean you can't have fun and enjoy the party all day and night!
I have watched friends over the years end up in some pretty dark places and I thank God so many of them were able to find a path to sobriety. It is common, during this journey, to have a hard time bein around a bar, social engagements, or just others that are drinking. For them, some places just aren't understanding or accommodating to their situation and that can be detrimental.
I am also a big believer in "family friendly" partying. No, I don't mean bring your kids to every interaction, but you should be able to if you want to! I am not a fan of kids, but yo, some kids are cooler than most adults. I'm just saying Ken in accounting never told me to bite the ends of the twizzler off to then use the twizzler as a straw! Growing up, my parents took me everywhere. Many places would bend over backwards to ensure that I was able to party like everyone else, with a mocktail and mac n cheese, so hey, no matter what my age it, I still want a mocktail and mac n cheese!
I want to share my experiences, and maybe, just maybe, encourage some of you to visit a place or two to enjoy a nonalcoholic beverage, great food, and one hell of a party!
What will you write about?
The South New Jersey Sober Party Girl Blog was created to share my thoughts, feelings, experience, and overall "Sober Party" score of restaurants, bars, and really anywhere else I end up. I am blessed to be in South Jersey where the party never seems to stop. From boardwalks, bars, restaurants, and farms to blueberry fields, ice cream shops, and bakeries. I plan to keep this blog MOSTLY bars/eateries, it's also my personal blog soooo I guess you'll see some other things too!
Another great thing we have is the amazing organization called the Hero Campaign that encourages bar or restaurants to offer a mocktail to help designated drivers feel like part of the party. The Hero Campaign runs a Herotini contest that raises money for the cause while also creating friendly competition amongst businesses to create the best mocktail. Herotini time is my favorite time of the year!
There is NO SHAME in going out and drinking as long as you do it RESPONSIBLY. Too many people lose their lives, especially down the shore, from drunk driving. Mocktails are for everyone not just DD's or sober living folks.
I hope to encourage you to enjoy all the area has to offer while making some sober decisions and enjoying the party!
This in NO WAY is meant to hurt or put down any local businesses. These posts will be what I (and maybe some guests) experience. You may have a completely different experience. Maybe certain locations don't want to cater to people who don't drink, and that it valid! The point of serving alcohol is to make money and create a certain experience. Some bars and restaurants may not want sober partiers specifically. Who knows! Many people have told me over the years to not frequent bars if I don't want to drink (wild take, but ok). I really do get it, but remember, the point of this blog is to show how fun I had as a sober partier! Most, if not all, places in the area are great and owned by some of the best people, and maybe their establishment won't be my cup of tea, and that's ok! ...But you will know.
When will you post?
Soooo, that's the big ticket question. I am going to try to write as often as I can. I am shooting to post at least once a week. This question may be the reason this blog has taken me years to finally pull the trigger. But, better late than never!
Where can I see your stuff?
As of May 2025, we have an empty facebook, South New Jersey Sober Party Girl, and instagram @snjsoberpartygirl. I am hoping to share images on there as I share them on this blog! Hopefully, more to come!
